EDIT: All of the information I have provided in this post regarding the closure of the Castle is wrong. The Castle is still going to be the Castle. It seems it will close for a couple of weeks for refurbishment and when it re-opens, part of it will be a restaurant. Live music is still very much a part of it. Sorry for the misinformation.
It’s very sad news about the Castle, I’m afraid. As of May 2011, the Castle, Finchley Road, will no longer be a live music venue. It’s becoming a fish restaurant. This means that today’s Dave Stark Five and Friends jam session will be the last one. We still have the big one on the 23rd of April to celebrate the Big ‘O’s 75thbirthday (see previous post).
I’d just like to say how proud and privileged I am to have worked at the Castle and to have met Denis Cook. If it weren’t for Denis, I would never have met Dave Stark and his fantastic band of musicians and been able to do my Roy Orbison tribute. And the job he did in turning the Castle around was amazing. It’s a true tragedy to see it changing.
Denis, I wish you all the best. You’re one of the best people I know.
Roy Orbison was born on 23rd April 1936 and to celebrate his 75th birthday, we’re having a birthday bash to be remembered. Starring myself as the Roy ‘Lefty’ Orbison, Glen Knowler as George ‘Nelson’ Harrison and the Dave Stark Five bringing back the rest of the Trembling Wilburies. We’ll be featuring all the big hits from the Big O, George Harrison and the Traveling Wilburies. There’s also a raffle with lots of Roy Orbison goodies to be won. All with the full blessing and support of Barbara Orbison and the Orbison estate!
But, before that happens, you can also come and see us play with other artists at the Castle’s Dave Stark Five and Friends jam night on the 3rd of April. I’ll be the along with Glen to do a few numbers. It happens on the first Sunday of every month and is always a great night with fantastic musicians.
So, to summarise:

May I present to you a full YouTube playlist of performances from the Dave Stark Five and Friends jam session at the Castle, Finchley Road from the 6th of Feb 2011. Featuring myself as the big O, Glen Knowler as George Harrison, Brian Kotz and tributes to the late Gary Moore.
For the first time in over 22 years Lefty and Nelson Wilbury of the Traveling Wilburys have performed together. On the 6th of February, Glen Knowler and myself performed as George Harrison and Roy Orbison at the Castle, Finchley Road.
And the great news is, we’re doing it all over again! On the 6th of March we’ll be right back there giving you Orbison, Harrison, Wilburys and maybe even a bit of Beatles. Want to see what it’s like? Have a look…
Going to be a busy week this week. Thursday night we have karaoke at the Surrey arms in Mitcham. Friday night some more karaoke at the White House in Enfield. Saturday night EVEN MORE karaoke at the Innisfree in Finchley Central. And last but not least, a great evening of live music at the Castle on Finchley Road with the Dave Stark Five and myself as the Big O.
Let’s do it one more time! This Sunday, the 9th of January, the Dave Stark Five will be taking control of the Castle again from 4pm to give us a great night’s entertainment. I’ll be there doing my Roy Orbison tribute in amongst all the other great acts.
If you can make it, please get down there. It’s free to get in and it’s a great night.
Well, today’s the day. I’m going to be doing my second official Roy Orbison tribute once again at the Castle, Finchley Road. I’m very excited and I’m hoping there will be many Big O fans there.
If you want details, click on the link below which will take you to the website with all the info. If you are a musician too, bring your instrument and sit in on the jam session between sets.
I’m going to be singing Oh, Pretty Woman, Only The Lonely, In Dreams and You Got It with the possible addition of Crying. Dave Stark’s band, the Dave Stark Five, were excellent last time around and will be just as superb this time.
Thanks for your support up to this point and I hope to see you at the Castle, today, from 5 til 10 for some great entertainment.
