From ZBrush to Blender

I managed to do it. At long last, I managed to sculpt something in ZBrush and export it to Blender exactly how I want it. Low-poly base mesh with a nice detailed normal map.

It was a lot simpler than I imagined and, now that I know how, I will be able to make much more detailed and well textured models a lot more easily. Roll on good times.

Stick Figure Camera Tracking Test

Inspired by a question on Blender Underground. I made a simple plane and applied my stick figure to it as a texture with transparency. Then I added a track to contraint to make it follow the camera. Then I added a Limit Rotation constraint to keep it upright and animated the camera moving around the scene.

The little fella never takes his eye off the camera so you never see him from the side and notice how flat he is. Sadly, that’s given away by his shadow! lol

A Brush With Reality

Here’s a little (deceptively simple) picture I made with Blender.

Adaptive subdivision in Blender

Now this is very interesting. I downloaded a huge build of Blender from graphicall.org which is packed to the brim with all the extras you could want. Probably. But that’s not the point of this post. Inside the build is a new modifier called ‘Adaptive Sudivision’. What this does is, it subdivides objects depending on how far away they are from the camera. The closest parts of the object get the most heavily subdivided.

How cool is that? And it’s STILL COMPLETELY FREE!!

Click here for an example of Adaptive Subdivision

Build available here.

Next step: Matching website

I’ve edited the banner in the background on my blog. The next step is to get the rest of my website to match it. I think this might mean starting the design from scratch. Aaaargh, like.

Upgraded

Big thanks go to my Brother, Steve, who has repaired and upgraded my WordPress blog. I can now reinstall my plug-ins and blog on the move from my iPod. Woooooo.

More exploding words

Still really enjoying playing with Blender and curves and exploding things. This one was requested by family friend Kyri. With a ‘Y’. Yup.

Inflating Triquetra

Here’s the main symbol from the TV show, Charmed, as you’ve never seen it before. You can probably tell I’ve been enjoying exploding things in Blender.

Exploding DaveC

Well, what can I say about this?

A friend of mine on Blender Underground’s forum wanted to know how to do this in Blender. Specifically, get it to write out a word in 3D and then have it explode. So, I got to work figuring it out and ended up with this. Apologies for the quality of the video.

Mr Rabbit and Hugo Bumble

Some of you may have seen my rabbit in an earlier entry. The one with the jaw dropping to the floor. Well, I needed to finish the picture. I needed him to have a reason to look like that. And here is the result…

I’m hoping to make an animation featuring these elements but no promises.
